Winter Driving Tips from Massapequa Nissan

If you haven't already noticed, it's winter. When you're behind the wheel and there is snow, or ice on the ground you have to be prepared. At Massapequa Nissan we want all drivers to be safe here in Seaford, NY and beyond, which is why we've prepared a few tips for how to successfully drive in winter.

The first thing you want, if you haven't already done so, is to ensure all your service is up to date. That includes batter, tire pressure, coolant, washer fluid, wiper condition, and your heating system. All of these must be in working order so you're not getting stuck, cold, or having trouble seeing while driving through snow.

Speaking of tires, of course winter tires are important. In our tire center has all kinds of winter treads to fit a variety of models. In addition, our service center can install them for you, and make sure you have a proper wheel alignment as well.

Other things to consider: keep your gas tank close to full, because your engine will be the only source of heat should you get stranded. Having items like a blanket, shovel, bottled water, flashlight and other supplies is helpful too. Also, when it does snow, clean off your car entirely.

Remember, if it's too dangerous to drive during a snowstorm, don't. The best thing you can do is stay where you are, especially if the roads are unsafe.
